Location

San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County and is located in southern central Texas.

History

Named for Saint Anthony of Padua, San Antonio is one of the oldest European settlements in the state of Texas and was first settled by Native Americans. The roots of Spanish colonization date back to 1717, when a fort was established, followed by a Catholic mission and trading post.

Mexico’s independence in 1821 led to a fight for control of the city, and in 1845, Texas became a state.

Favorite Places

San Antonio Missions remain some of its favorite attractions, grounding the city and providing residents with a foundation of history. The Alamo is another reminder of the history that underscores this prominent city, and a must-see for residents, kids, and visitors.

The San Antonio River Walk has all the charm, fun, dining opportunities, and activities one would want in a favorite hangout, and no mention of San Antonio’s hotspots would be complete without the addition of Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld. The city is also home to the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs as well as the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the state’s most popular rodeos.

The city’s military is well represented with facilities including Joint Base San Antonio.

Real estate

Attached homes, single-family residences for first-time buyers up to luxury properties, acreage—San Antonio real estate has it all.

Hotspots for real estate include the downtown areas of City Center, King William, Monte Vista, and Beacon Hill, home to many young professionals who enjoy being able to walk to restaurants, cafes, shops, and art galleries.

For families, Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and the upscale neighborhood of Olmos Park offer desirable spots. Affordable family neighborhoods are to the north at Shavano Park and to the south in the popular masterplanned community of Mission del Lago.
