Location

Cibolo is located in western Guadalupe County, on the north side of Cibolo Creek. It is bordered by Bexar County and the city of Schertz and is just 14 miles from New Braunfels and 21 miles from downtown San Antonio.

History

Early Native American tribes including the Comanche settled Cibolo before the Europeans that settled much of the Hill Country arrived. While many other Hill Country cities are named for the Germans who were among the first to discover the area, Cibolo retained its Native American name that translates to “buffalo.”

The Cibolo of today owes its population to the establishment of the Southern Pacific Railroad, which introduced travelers to the area while jaunting from Houston to San Antonio.
